"Old School Effy"
'55 F-100 as of Labor Day, 2006
Monday, August 28th I'm excited to have just ordered the new wheels for the back of my truck.
No hurry on 'em, just excited to see how the big 10" hoops will tuck under that 3" widened back fender.
It's Wednesday morning, August 30th, 5:45am and I'm sitting on the side of the highway stunned
that the engine in my '97 Camaro has called it quits. I'm waiting on the tow truck that is expected to show
up by 7:00 realizing that I've got to get my truck on the road, NOW! I started to make my list of things to do
and money that MUST be spent - trying to keep the costs to a minimum. The bed and back fenders are rough
and in black primer, all four wheels are 15x6 black steelies from the junk yard, wrapped in may-pops.
Upon arrival to work, I ordered tires, and got verification from my lovely wife that I wasn't making the wrong
decision in putting the truck together in short order. She's in full agreement that this is the thing to do under
the circumstances. When I got home that evening, I jumped on it and stayed after it Thursday & Friday after work
and Saturday and Sunday - all day. As seen below is the condition we were able to get to in five days.
Thanks to my neighbor, Mike for his tireless work slinging the paint gun and helping late into the nights
and to the last minute help from my friends in the church - Butch, Greg, and Tommy! Not seen, but used
all over this truck are the Tifco bolts provided by Dave Meador & Duane. This project would have taken much
longer without the neatly organized bolt bins and the vast array of sizes of the industries best in fasteners!
The most exciting addition to this is the 15x10 steelies out back with the monster 31x10.50/15's.
All four wheels were sanded, primed, and painted in a matter of hours. Before the primer and paint
went on, the rubber was slipped on the hoops so the paint wouldn't get scratched, then the tires were
taped up and the rims painted. The next afternoon the bead was seated and the combo balanced.
